Rome is not the only Italian city that can boast of being religiously important, Milan also is significant in its own way. It is home to a number of great religious symbols like The Duomo, Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio, etc. The most noted of these symbols:

The Duomo- It is a beautiful depiction of Gothic-Lombard architecture and it dates back as long as 1300. This magnificent building houses nearly 3500 statues in an area of approximately 12,000 square metres. Its tallest spire is 108 metres high and has the renowned “Madonna”- statue of the Virgin Mary covered in 3900 pieces of gold leaf on its top.

Basilica of Sant’ Ambrogio - Constructed in 379 A.D, in Romanesque-Lombard style, it houses invaluable artefacts and art works representing 1600 years of the history of Milan. It was consecrated by Bishop Ambrogio, hence the name.

Basilica of Sant’ Eustorgio - This medieval religious building was constructed in the 4th century as said by Bishop Eustorgio, who is famous for having brought the remains of the wise kings from Constantinople.

Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore - Situated opposite the Roman columns which are the remains of a 3rd century temple, this church is an accumulation of different architectural syles, the reason being the very many renovations it has undergone over the time.

Santa Maria delle Grazie - Constructed in the latter part of 15th century, it houses Leonardo da Vinci’s world famous work- “The Last Supper” in the refectory.Though started in 15th century, it was completed much later by “il Bramante” who designed the apse and the cloisters.
